Panthers move on to round 2 with 35-7 win over Hunter Huss
"Nothing fancy, we just want to get the job done" was what one of the Franklin coaches said prior to the first round playoff kick off with #16 ranked Hunter Huss. In fact, Franklin did not change a thing and ground out the first round win 35-0 in the Panther Pit. Franklin got things started when they drove the ball down field with a steady ball control attack that ended when Jeremiah Young pummeled a Huss Defensive back enroute to the endzone (PAT kick failed). The next Franklin score came when Jacob Young capped a long drive with a 1-yard plunge midway through the second quarter. Franklin would add a two point conversion when Austin Gibsons pass hit Jeb Brewer and a Huss defender before Parrish Young would secure the pass. Franklin would mount another long drive that consumed most of the third quarter and Parrish Young would KO a Huss defender as he scored on a 1-yard run. The Panther attach was not finished as they chewed up a good portion of the 4th quarter and Marquell Manning would finish the drive with a 6-yard run. Huss would finally crack the endzone late in the 4th quarter when reserve QB Jeremiah Hunter would find Chad Mackins in the back of the endzone for a 21-yard TD pass. Huss then lined up for the onside kick, but an offside penalty on Franklin would cause a rekick. The Huss kicker pooched the ball directly to Jacob Young who promptly scooped it up and outran everyone 57-yards to the endzone. Franklin held Huss to -9 yards rushing and 87 yards passing for a net of 78 yards total offense. Nathan Raby was the team rushing leader as he rushed 10 times for 109 yards. Jacob Young had 7 tackles to lead the defense. Franklin will host the #6 seed East Henderson in second round action friday night in the Panther Pit.
